The games is a celebration of sports aimed at the ‘older’ generation and includes golf, the Barellan Run, the Barellan Walk, cricket, tennis, netball, team penning, touch football, the triathlon and barefoot bowls.
The idea of Barellan Masters Games started after the success of the Barellan Centenary back in 2009. We thought we needed an annual event that brought people into the town that would not only encourage the ‘older’ generation to get active and involved but also inject some funds into some of the infrastructure around the town. It was also a good opportunity to show off our little town; we may be small in size but we have big aspirations!
Demonstrations of early farming techniques, harvesting, hay cutting, binder, horseworks, horse drawn wagons, vintage farm machinery, ron mckinnon and his bullock team as seen on abc’s landline program in march 2014,they will demonstrate, among other things, pulling an original mallee roller, amazing to watch, the famous barellan “team” of 26+ clydesdale horses pulling a huge wagon loaded high with 3.5 tons of wool bales, most of this is something you will never see anywhere else in australia, reps from the iconic furphy company from shepparton re-barreling the famous furphy water tanks, you provide the ends and our representative will do the barrel on site.

Barellan Beer is a non for profit, community owned project that turns premium locally grown Barellan Barley in beer. Barellan Beer is a truly unique project, utilising local ingredients with all profits going back into the town. Since launching at Barellan’s annual Working Clydesdales Festival in October 2014, the inaugural Barellan Beer, ‘Golden Grain Ale’ has been enjoyed on tap at the Barellan & District War Memorial Club, and across the country in its packaged form. Without the budgets of our beer companies, Barellan Beer relies on the support of our community to keep the project alive. Whether it’s promoting the beer, donating grain, volunteering to work behind the bar at festivals and events, or assisting with transport and storage of our beloved beverage, our community support is just as important ingredient as our quality locally grown barley.
